NC being targeted for advocating rights of the people in Jammu and Kashmir: Omar Abdullah
Addresses YNC convention at Nawa-e-Subha
Srinagar, 04 Apr: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday exhorted party’s youth wing functionaries to repeat 1977 victory by defeating New Delhi’s representatives, and sending peoples’ representatives to Parliament.
He made these comments while addressing the provincial convention of Youth National Conference today at party headquarters Nawa e subah, Srinagar. The convention was organized by Provincial President YNC Salman Ali Sagar while Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and other leaders also addressed the convention. Party’s Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Women Wing President Shamima Firdous, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi, Mudassar Shahmiri, Imran Nabi Dar, Ahsan Pardesi, Peer Afaq Ahmad, Sara Hayat Shah, Dr. Sajjad Shafi, Sabia Qadri, Ifra Jan and other party functionaries were also present.
Omar Abdullah said, “Senior leaders and former ministers of our party are without security and when we ask for it, we are told that no security personnel are available. Here is the irony. Those who start abusing us are provided with accommodation and vehicles within two days and even envelopes are delivered to their home in the evening. There is no shortage of PSO’s for such people. Is it our fault that we did not approve the decisions of 5th August 2019? Is it our fault that we say we will fight for the rights of the people here?
“What we say in Kashmir, we say the same things in Jammu, and the same in Delhi. Be it media conclave or interviews, we have said the same at every place that on 5th August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir was dishonored and robbed, irreparable damage was done, false promises were made to us on that day,” he said adding, “Government talks about construction and development, show me even one new project they started after 2019. These people talk about tourism, when was there no tourism here? Whether it’s the Gondola in Gulmarg, or the golf course of Pahalgam, or the hotels of Sonamarg, were they built after 2019?”
He said, “We are asked what we have done for this state. We built universities, colleges, hospitals, established democratic and constitutional institutions, electricity projects, water schemes, built flyovers, demarcated new nayabats, tehsils and blocks. Revolutionary and historical work was done in our governments. We ask them what they have done here during the last 6 years.”
Omar Abdullah asked the functionaries and workers of the youth wing to be ready for future challenges. “You are the future of this party and you have to go ahead and take the reins. We have two exams ahead of us, the first exam is the Lok Sabha elections and after that the assembly elections and we have to prepare for both from today,” he said.
Asking every citizen to remember Aug 05 2019 while casting their votes, he said, “Your vote will decide if you affirm the decisions of Aug 05 or oppose them. For those who do not accept these decisions it is better to vote for the National Conference because this vote will be a message to the Union government.”
The three youth zone presidents Mushtaq Mir, Waqar Khan, Peerzada Faroz along with youth leaders including Irfan Zehgeer, Zahid Mughal, Salman Mattoo, Rayees Matoo also addressed the convention.
