People of J&K have first right over their resources: Omar Abdullah
Addresses mega public rallies in Shopian, Wachi constituencies
Srinagar, 08 Sept: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that the restoration of electoral democracy in J&K is because the Hon’ble Supreme Court intervened and not because of the BJP.
He stated that if the BJP fails to grant statehood to J&K, the future NC government will not hesitate to seek justice from the highest court once again.
While addressing back to back election rallies in Shopian and Zainpora today, he said, “We have been eagerly awaiting this day for the past decade. The last assembly elections were held in 2014.”
“Yesterday in Jammu, the Home Minister took a jab at us, questioning how the National Conference and Congress could promise statehood. He doubted our ability to deliver on this promise. I want to remind Amit Shah that this election was not handed to us on a silver platter. We fought tooth and nail in the Supreme Court to earn the right to hold this election. If they refuse to restore statehood, we will not hesitate to knock on the doors of the Supreme Court once again to reclaim what is rightfully ours,” he said.
The public meetings were organised by party candidates for Shopian and Zainpora AC Sheikh Muhammad Rafi and Showkat Hussain Ganaie. Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Treasurer Shami Oberoi, South Zone President Syed Tauqeer Ahmed, and other local unit office bearers and functionaries were present on the occasion.
In his address, Omar Abdullah said, “We are in a battle against destructive forces that have wreaked havoc on Jammu and Kashmir. While we engage in political discourse regarding Article 370, statehood, and prisoner releases, we must also address the daily struggles faced by the people that the current government has failed to resolve. We must find solutions to these issues.”
He challenged the youth, questioning how many have been provided with employment opportunities by the government in the past decade. He highlighted the plight of educated youth who remain unemployed, facing harassment and unjust treatment. He vowed to abolish the PSA law to prevent its misuse in the future.
“The National Conference has pledged to reintroduce free education up to the university level, provide 200 units of free electricity to every household, and offer 12 gas cylinders annually to economically disadvantaged families. We are committed to restoring the forest rights of marginalized communities, safeguarding the apple industry, and upholding the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In conclusion,” he said, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling these promises to bring relief to the people and ensure a brighter future for Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that many people are worried because of the same agenda of the National Conference and that is the reason why there are a lot of independent candidates and new parties. “People have to take special care that their vote does not go in favor of BJP.”
Criticizing the PDP, Omar Abdullah said that the people here tried by giving the mandate to the PDP in 2014. “PDP sought votes against BJP by scaring people here and then formed the government not once but twice with the same BJP and paved the way to destroy Jammu and Kashmir at every level. Today, these PDP people are again asking for votes against BJP.”
There is no doubt that there is only one symbol that is standing against the BJP and that is the plough symbol of the National Conference and this party is capable of fighting the BJP and bringing Jammu and Kashmir on the path of development and prosperity.
